After the significant dip experienced by the tourism industry these last few years, local authorities all across America are trying their hardest to attract travelers to their state.
However, some states have been so wildly successful that they’re bringing new life to previously overlooked destinations.
According to a recent press release, there’s one Southeastern U.S. state that has just broken its all-time tourism record.
Here’s how it all happened:
A Record-Breaking Year
Georgia has just announced its most successful tourism year to date, having welcomed 167.7 million visitors (both domestic and international) in 2022.
During this timeframe, tourism has brought in almost $40 billion, marking a remarkable contribution to the state’s economy.
Though Georgia only achieved this incredible feat last year, the success of its tourism industry should come as no surprise.
The state has claimed the #5 spot in the U.S. domestic overnight visitation ranking for the third year in a row, indicating that travelers are more eager than ever to experience its natural wonders, historical landmarks, and rich culture.
Natural Wonders
No tourism marketing campaign, no matter how well done, can boast such a high ROI without being backed up by an experience that’s worth paying for.
And as it happens, there’s no shortage of natural wonders to marvel at here in Georgia. Here are some of the sights you won’t want to miss out on:
- Amicalola Falls – one of the tallest cascading waterfalls in all of Southeastern U.S., plunging 729 feet (222 meters).
- Okefenokee Swamp – a national wildlife refuge home to alligators, turtles, and several one-of-a-king bird species.
- Providence Canyon State Park – otherwise known as Georgia’s “Little Grand Canyon,” this park boasts some of the most colorful and intricate canyons you’ll ever see.
- Cumberland Island – this barrier off Georgia’s southeast coast features protected beaches and maritime forests that’ll make your jaw drop.
- Stone Mountain – often synonymous with Georgia itself, this massive 800-foot (244-meter) tall granite dome features plenty of panoramic hikes that culminate with the summit view of the Atlanta skyline and the Appalachian Mountains.

Even those who don’t care much about scenic views will still love Georgia for its friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
The state is renowned for its tradition in Southern Hospitality, with locals radiating a warm, polite aura that leaves tourists feeling like they’re at home.
The laid-back lifestyle and strong sense of community felt here also create a nice juxtaposition against the more fast-paced areas in the rest of the U.S.

Georgia’s (arguably) biggest selling point is the fact that it caters to all types of travelers.

If you’re in a pinch and want to experience as much of Georgia as possible within a limited timeframe, local tours are your best bet.
